Rare Book Reveals How Pioneering Plastic Surgeon Achieved Mastery of Rhinoplasty 185 Years Ago

An extremely rare 185-year-old book that reveals some of the stomach-churning procedures carried out by the Georgian pioneer of plastic surgery has come to light.

German professor Johann Friedrich Dieffenbach established modern techniques for reconstructive surgery on patients’ noses and documented his work in a graphical book published in 1833.

While the book shows that plastic surgery is not just a 21st century obsession and that techniques Dieffenbach established are still used today, other chapters are not for the squeamish.
